UBI Research foresees the flexible AMOLED market rising from USD4.9B in 2016 to USD40.8B in 2020 — a CAGR of 70%. According to UBI, in 2020 around 1B flexible AMOLEDs will be produced. UBI Research says that while virtually all flexible OLEDs used in smartphones use an edge-type design (bezel-less), by 2017 Samsung will use a flexible OLED to cover the entire smartphone screen (full-screen). In regards to Foxconn / Sharp’s investment in OLED, LG Display and Samsung Display are not very worried about this competition from Japan. LG Display estimates that the Japanese maker will not be able to compete with flexible OLEDs by at least 2019 or possibly 2020.
