It was a busy week with MWC 2017 happening in Barcelona Spain. Vendors touting their products and technologies, and let’s have a quick recap:

Products from MWC2017:

  • Having 18:9 aspect ratio FullVision display LG G6
  • Huawei P10 with dual-camera (still)
  • Sony Xperia XZ Premium with 4K display
  • TCL’s BlackBerry KEYone with touch-enabled keyboard
  • TCL’s Alcatel A5 LED with modular functionality
  • HMD Global brought back Nokia
  • Gionee A1 and A1 Plus with big battery
  • Mid-range Moto G5 and G5 Plus from Lenovo
  • ZTE unveils the first phone that can reach gigabit speeds, Gigabit Phone

Technologies announced in MWC2017:

  • OPPO has unveiled what it is calling the world’s first “5x Dual-Camera Zoom” for smartphones
  • Meizu is introducing world’s quickest fast charging solution dubbed Super mCharge
  • Nokia has announced 5G FIRST, which allows operators to utilize early specifications for 5G networks

Other information outside MWC2017:

  • Prices of mobile DRAM, mobile NAND Flash products and AMOLED panels will continue to climb through 2017
  • Xiaomi unveils ‘Pinecone’ mobile processor, the Pinecone Surge S1
  • Yield rates for TSMC’s 10nm process technology have still been too low to boost the process to economies of scale
  • Apple sued Qualcomm in a U.K. court
  • Foxconn is investing CNY61B (USD8.9B) in the factory in Guangzhou and plans to complete it by 2019
  • Foxconn chairman Terry Guo has declared that he is “very serious” about bidding for Toshiba’s memory chip business
  • TSMC is looking to expand into the 3D NAND sector through investing in Toshiba’s memory business
  • Huawei’s mobile unit missed an internal profit target for 2016 even though revenues exceeded targets
  • Samsung heir Lee Jae-yong and 4 other senior executives from the electronics giant were indicted on 28 Feb 2017 on charges including embezzlement and bribery, South Korean prosecutors said
